From the Office of Senator Mark Warner (Virginia)
I'm writing with some good news for wounded warriers. The Department of Defense recently announced that up to 133,000 veterans who were wounded in the line of duty may qualify for a federal tax refund.
For years, many wounded combat veterans had their disability severance pay improperly taxed because of a technical glitch in the Pentagon computer system.
The Combat-Injured Veterans Tax Fairness Act was passed and these veterans will finally have an opportunity to claim money that is theirs.
If you're a veteran whose severance pay was taxed after you were wounded in action, you are encouraged to file for a refund. If you need asistance with this please remember to contact your senator for assistance.
The Army, Air Force and Navy exchanges will start allowing "Honorably Discharged Veterans" to shop on line, (think Amazon, but only cheaper and with no taxes.) The target start date is Veterans Day, November 11, 2017 but, you must register first. Registration begins June 1, 2017.

VETERANS' AID AND ATTENDANCE - The Veterans Administration offers Aid and Attendance as part of an "Improved Pension" Benefit that is largely unknown. This Improved Pension allows for Veterans and surviving spouses who require the regular attendance of another person to assist in eating, bathing, dressing, undressing, medication dosing, or taking care of the needs of nature to receive additional monetary benefits. It also includes individuals who are blind or a patient in a nursing home because of mental or physical incapacity. Assisted care in an Assisted Living facility also qualifies. Please click here for more information.
